Creative Pathways to Inner Calm

Some things we carry do not have words yet. Using simple neurographic drawing, Jason shows you how to let an emotion onto the page, soften its edges, and give your nervous system a creative way to resolve what talking alone cannot reach.

The video for this class is on its way. Add its Vimeo id to the class file and rebuild.

What you’ll learn

  • Why so much of the brain is non-verbal, and why “tell me how you’re feeling” only reaches part of what’s there.
  • Neuro lines: slow, meandering lines drawn by feel, noticing where the pen soothes and where it tightens.
  • Rounding every intersection, and why that simple act settles the primitive brain.
  • What basic shapes mean to the nervous system, and how to draw a circle as a safe space.
  • The catharsis: scribbling what you’re holding into the circle with a cheap pen, then spreading it to the edges of the page with lines and rounding until it belongs.
  • Working the other way round, adding intuitive colour, and keeping a dated note on the back so you can see your own path over time.
  • Uses beyond calm: grief, physical pain, a decision you can’t make, a timeline you want to understand.

What you’ll need

A few sheets of plain paper, a black pen you don’t mind pressing hard with, and anything you like for colour. Draw along with the video; the exercise is the class.
